My eldest daughter is a (gulp) high school senior. My eldest daughter is a (gulp) high school senior.

While she’s knee-deep in college applications and essays, I’m struggling to come to terms with the fact that this time next year my baby won’t be at home.

To make sure I can help her if god forbid a life-altering accident and illness happens to her, I'll be making sure she signs a couple of basic estate planning documents before she leaves for college.

Middle school group projects…where social pressu Middle school group projects…where social pressure and academic pressure collide.

Choose your own group? Move fast to avoid the dreaded “we already have enough members” cutoff.

Assigned groups? If you have lazy partners, you can either do all or most of the work yourself, or rat out your partners and risk having the word snitch attached to your name for the rest of middle school.

3 out of 4 of my daughters are in or have been through middle school. After years of listening to their complaints about group projects, I’ve got a thing or two to say.

Like why not ask each kid (in private) what work they agreed to do at the beginning of the project, and what work they actually did?

For more on my thoughts on middle school group projects, click on the link in my bio for my latest post for @dallas_moms .

Are school group projects preparing kids for teamwork in the workplace, or are they as far removed from real-world, on-the-job teamwork as playing Mario Kart is to Formula One racing?

Leave a comment and let me know.

Being stuck indoors more this summer thanks to alm Being stuck indoors more this summer thanks to almost 40 days of 100+ degree temps has inspired this Dallas mom to do some serious decluttering.

Clothes and shoes. Bikes the kids have outgrown. Excess art and school supplies. Worn out towels and blankets. Kitchen gadgets I never use. Books and DVDS.

Read my latest blog post for @dallas_moms for 7 things to give away, as well as some great Dallas-area charities that would welcome your donations.

Get it in writing and always read the contract. I Get it in writing and always read the contract.

If I could give influencers and other content creators just one piece of advice, that would be it.

If you want to be taken seriously, and avoid being taken advantage of, you need to use contracts in your business (and thoroughly review them before you sign them).

If you are working with a brand, you need to know how much you will get paid, when you will be paid, when the work is due, and if you can use the content you create again in the future.

Invest in a good lawyer to draft template contracts to use in your business, or to review complicated contracts.

Click on the link in my bio for 5 important things to look for in a contract.
